Welcome to Troop 553 in House Springs, Missouri. Troop 553 was first chartered to House Springs PTA in July 1954 in what was then the GRANT district of the St. Louis Area Council. Mr. Charles Dick, Jr. was the first Scoutmaster and Mr. John B. Holtmann was the first Committee Chairman. 23 Boys were registered and the registration fee at that time was 10 cents.

Troop 553 is currently chartered to Our Lady Queen of Peace Youth Ministry. The Troop serves over 50 youth and is one of the largest Boy Scout Troops in the RIVER TRAILS district in Jefferson County, Missouri. The Troop maintains a fun-filled, year-round program and to date has produced 39 EAGLE Scouts.

Troop 553 participates in a variety of activities throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, we typically go camping for our "Freezeout" patch. As you can imagine, this is a cold weekend. In February, the classic Klondike Derby is held. The boys construct a sled and act as the "dogs" that ferry it around to different stations to complete various tasks. In the spring, we often go to Lake Wappapello for a great weekend of fishing and boating. We also visit the climbing tower at Beaumont during the spring. This is especially exciting for the New Boys who graduate from Webelos into our troop. During the summer, there is weeklong Summer Camp, typically at S Bar F Camp. In November, we are proud to participate in the Scouting for Food project that originated here in the St. Louis area and is now a national service project.

Every three months we hold a Court of Honor. Rank advancements, merit badges, and other achievements are recognized at these events and awards and patches are handed out. This is a family event and we look forward to the fellowship which ensues.
